World Cow Resource Centre |
World Cow Resource Centre aims to create an ecosystem with the cattle rescued from slaughter – houses. The Project has set a very ambitious target of saving five lakh (5, 00,000) cows by the year 2020. A Project of this scale demands a lot of resources and for this it has to develop a very strong and sustainable stream of revenues.
|
 |
We first list the resources needed and how we plan to get them. The resources can be broadly stated as:
| Land |
: |
The entire project is estimated to require five thousand acres of land. Most of the land procured for this project would be waste and barred land across different states of India. (click on images to zoom) |
| |
|
Land acquired for WCRC at Roha
|
 Land acquired for COW
University at Kolhad |
| Water |
: |
The land that we would procure may not have natural sources of water. Bore wells could be option at places where water table is not very deep. Alternative sources of water could be artificially created reservoirs by the rainwater harvesting techniques. This would require some capital investment. |
| Electricity |
: |
The project plans to meet its electricity requirement by the biogas plants that could be set up. Biogas plants would also require capital investment. |
| Man Power |
: |
The project plans to generate employment for the rural population of the villages where the land would be acquired. Man power would be required in all activities like managing cattle , sheds, biogas plants or cow-urine / dung products, bio-diesel, aromatic plants, eco-tourism and the management of the project as well. |
| Fodder |
: |
The Fodder requirements for the cattle is also planned to be met by growing fodder crops on the waste-land produced. The waste land could be cured by remediation techniques to grow crops on them. These remediation techniques again require capital investments. |
The important pre-requisite for getting funds for the project is a strong and sustainable stream of revenue.
|
The resources of revenue identified are:- |
| |
| Cow-Urine and Dung Products: |
Cow-Urine is known to have medicinal values and it also supposed to be anti-fungal. There are a number of ayurvedic medicines that use cow-urine. Cow dung could be used as manure for farms. It has also known to be a good insecticide. Hence cow urine and dung could be used to develop a number of products. Milk and other by products could be a small source of revenue as some cows could be milk-yielding too.
|
| Biogas: |
Biogas generated, if in excess could also be sold to the villages. |
| Bio-Diesel: |
| Some state governments encourage the cultivation of Jatropha the crop yielding bio diesel. Since this project plans to procure waste-land and remediate it, jatropha cultivation is a possibility. |
| Carbon credits: |
| Biogas generation leads to accumulation of carbon-credits. These credits have a very strong international market. |
| Cultivation of Aromatic and Medicinal Herbs: |
| Aromatic plants are much in demand and yield very high returns. Also medicinal herbs required for Ayurvedic medicines could also be cultivated. |
| Other Sources: |
| Agriculture and plantation of fruit or palm trees. There is a opportunity of developing an eco-tourist center and holiday resort-one similar to Sahara Lake City near Lonawala Hill Station. |
|
